(Beijing, January 22) The women's 53kg competition of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 International Weightlifting Invitational Tournament concluded this evening, with Wang Mingjuan of China winning the title with a two-life total of 205kg (92kg in the snatch, 113kg in the clean & jerk). After the competition, Wang expressed her satisfaction with the venue and facilities and hoped that she would be able to participate in this year's Beijing Olympic Games.

Wang, originally a 48kg weightlifter, participated in the 53kg category this time and won with ease. Wang said that she had competed with no pressure and that the venue and the facilities including the barbells, platform and lighting were all very good.

Speaking of the Beijing Olympics, Wang said that the final roster had not come out yet, and she would try her utmost to earn a berth in it and would spare no efforts to win honor for the country if she was able to compete in the Games. As she put it, every one on her team was working hard for the Olympic Games and she herself was fit enough for regular training.

Currently, in the women's 48kg category, China has three weightlifters close in strength, namely Wang Mingjuan, Yang Lian and Chen Xiexia. Internal competition therefore seems unavoidable because of the limited tickets to the Beijing Games. Actually, Wang added, they are opponents on the platform but friends off it, and that every time they returned from a competition abroad, they would bring gifts to those at home. She hoped that the gold medal would remain in China no matter who the winner is.
