(Beijing, January 22) In the men's 56kg class of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 International Weightlifting Invitational Tournament this evening, Hoang Anh Tuan of Vietnam took the title with a two-lift total of 278kg (128kg in the snatch and 150kg in the clean & jerk).
After the competition, Hoang expressed his thanks to the event organizing committee and said he was pleased and excited to be here. He hoped to come back to Beijing for the Olympic Games in the coming August. As a weightlifter popular in his country, Hoang is the hope of Vietnam's weightlifting, as the Vietnamese sports authorities have pinned high hopes on his achieving good results at the Beijing Olympic Games.
However, Hoang was not quite satisfied with the results he had achieved in this tournament. As he said after the competition, today's two-lift total of 278kg was not his best record, as he had done 285kg at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. He attributed his below-par performance to his injury and admitted that China was a strong opponent.
