(Beijing, January 23) Matthias Steiner of Germany grabbed the gold of the men's +105kg class on the second day of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2008 International Weightlifting Invitational Tournament this evening. China's Gao Le took the bronze.
Seven lifters competed in the Group A contest with Gao Le and Sun Haibo coming from China.
In the snatch, Gao lifted 171kg while Sun managed 180kg and failed at 190kg. German Matthias Steiner succeeded at 193kg, followed by Sun and American Casey Burgener, both marked at 180kg, and Polish Grzegorz Kleszcz, who finished third with 175kg.
In the clean & jerk, Gao lifted 211kg in his first attampt. Sun chose the same weight but dropped out due to injury. Gao made it to 220kg before failed at the last one at 226.
Matthias Steiner succeeded at 216kg and 230kg and collected a total of 423kg for the gold medal. Grzegorz Kleszcz of Poland lifted 220kg for 395kg on aggregate to win the silver. Gao's total was 391kg, which earned him a bronze medal.
